About Us

Youth based volleyball programming is our business

Reds Volleyball club is driven to be the best by promoting these core values.

To provide a positive and rewarding experience in sport through volleyball.

We recognize that each and every athlete is different. That each team year over year is different. Reds uses its experience of adapting programs to suit its athletes to make their volleyball experience rewarding.

To lead in the promotion of and development of volleyball

By working with local, regional clubs and our provincial and national partners, Reds has trail blazed on shaping programming, events and policy to make the game better.

In 1998, Reds Volleyball Club was born out of a discussion with some well known volleyball enthusiasts to improve the access and quality of volleyball programming in the area. By leveraging some local University of New Brunswick alumni and based on experiences with Ottawa's Kangaroo Volleyball Club, Reds was started.

The Early Years 1998-2003

Reds started small by running a series of spring camps with a goal to simply help kids make their middle school teams. About forty athletes joined us at UNB's old South Gymnasium. That fall we joined VNB and stood up four teams to represent the all of the volleyball age classes represented in the province (18U and 16U). Our grassroots program took root and the club introduced volleyball to many young athletes. We enjoyed some provincial success in boys volleyball but had to adjust our measuring stick for girls programs to little victories.

Growth and the Taste of Success 2004-2019

Our growth continued attracting over 100 athletes in our grassroots programs. Cultivating young athletes paid off as the club expanded into 15U, 14U, and 17U programs in both girls and boys categories. The club enjoyed continued success in our boys program but started to see success at in girls programming. The club started to capture provincial Tier 1 titles and we never looked back.

The Pandemic 2020-2021

Faced with the unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic and associated restrictions, Reds Volleyball Club had to pivot from programming at community schools to leasing a private facility to ensure we could continue to play. Working with the City of Fredericton Recreation Department, RVC leadership established a two court training facility and kept its programming going.

Legacy of Excellence

Reds has grown to be one of the largest clubs in Atlantic Canada and a leader in terms of developing athletes and coaches. Our teams have enjoyed unprecedented success capturing over 60 Tier 1 provincial age class championships through the years (and many Tier 2 Titles). Our athletes represent the majority of athletes invited to NB provincial teams and Canada Games Teams for Men and Women. We are a cultivator of athletic talent with Reds players playing professionally, in National Excellence Programs as well as feeding U SPORT and CCAA teams across the country. We foster a positive environment to develop new coaches and support their hobby to the fullest. Some of our alumni are recognized as some of the most experience large event hosts in the country.

Reds is a not-for-profit organization, led by a board of directors, and a management team that includes a president, and staff.

New Brunswick is unique among Canadian Provinces as its club season is in the fall and school seasons are in the spring. Reds offers programs in the fall and winter/spring to take advantage of out of province competitions.

Fall Season

  • Volleyball New Brunswick: Reds teams compete in various tournaments around the province including our own multi-divisional events: Little Red Tournament and Big Red Tournaments. Teams participate in Volleyball New Brunswick Age Class Provincials in mid December.
  • Fall based open Tournaments: These tournaments may be in or out of province.

Winter/Spring Season

  • Local events such as Big Red Winter Edition.
  • Volleyball Canada: Our teams may compete in regional and/or national championships depending on location and costs (Canada is a big country).
  • New England Region: For teams that train through the winter, often our teams compete in larger or specialty events with USA Volleyball such as the Nike Boston Festival.
  • Other US Events: Occasionally Reds teams will compete in other US events such as Florida.
